Paradise Valley Soccer

There will be a Soccer Camp July 21-24 held at the Emigrant Soccer Fields
for boys and girls ages 6 through 14.

Ages 6-9 are from 2:00 to 4:00 with a cost of $55.00 and ages 10-14 are from
2:00 to 4:30 with a cost of $60.00. The registration deadline is July 15,
2008. The camp is being run by the director of coaching
education for Montana Youth Soccer. For registration information or
questions contact The Soccer Shop at 585-7171. If the camps fill prior to
the deadline, registration will close early.

Paradise Valley Recreation Soccer Sign Ups for the Fall Season will be held
June 17th, 5:30-7:00 pm, at the Arrowhead Baseball Field and is for ages
5-15. The Soccer season runs August 25th through October 13th. The cost is
$45.00 per player if a parent volunteers and $65.00 if non-volunteer. Please

Notes: Performances by Shakespeare in the Parks at 1, 2, 3pm. Family-friendly half-hour of scenes from Midsummer Night’s Dream. Outside at the Tinsley Homestead. Free with museum admission. A good way to introduce kids to Shakespeare.

SUMMER SERIES FOR MIDDLE & HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS (Grades 5-12)

Take a closer look at the Museum’s summer and permanent exhibits. Students will spend time diving deeper into the history, theory, and practices of some of the best that MOR has to offer. From minerals to bioluminescence from the Tinsley House to rockets and, finally, building your own artwork inspired by Raymond Loewy.

Class size is limited to 15 (students only, please), and pre-registration is required at 406.994.5282 or ndixon@montana.edu. Cost per class is $12 for members, $15 for non-members. Register for all four sessions and receive a 10% discount:$54 for members, $67 for non-members.

BUTTE’S CONTRIBUTION TO THE WORLD OF GEMS AND MINERAL
Butte is known nationally and internationally for its cache of copper and valuable gems. Learn about the historic importance of Butte’s contribution to the world of gems and minerals, and break open your own geode to take home. Participants will enjoy a private tour of the Duval Gems and Minerals collections.

Become a historical investigator by taking an in-depth look into the Tinsley Homestead’s history. Read Tinsley family diaries, investigate archaeological finds, study architectural structure and the farm layout, and enjoy a private tour of the Tinsley House to reconstruct life on a Montana homestead in the 1890s.

Join us for a class investigating the science behind bioluminescence. Discover how and why deep sea creatures use chemicals to make their bodies glow. Learn about the latest medical advances made with bioluminescence, and check out live scorpions that fluoresce under black light.

Discover the science behind rockets while participating in this hands-on rocket-building class. Using plastic pop bottles we will learn what it takes to make a rocket fly straight and high, and will then test our launch expertise using a specially designed, air- compressed rocket launcher.

CREATING ART FROM RECLAIMED MATERIALS: INSPIRATIONS FROM RAYMOND LOEWY
Raymond Loewy was at the forefront of the consumer design culture, setting the precedent for art-deco design that changed the look of consumer goods forever. Bring in old (non-working) toasters, blenders, and other small appliances, and build a reclaimed piece of artwork inspired by Raymond Loewy designs.

Mud Madness at MOSS

Title: Mud Madness

Notes: Let’s get down and dirty. Through explorations and hands-on experiments we will investigate the earth, rocks and dirt. We will create artwork using materials gathered during our explorations and enjoy a YUMMY mud pie. Be prepared to get muddy!
